Ed Stetzer, President of LifeWay Research
Ed Stetzer, missiologist and friend of The Church Planting Network, published an article this morning that is greatly in tune with our hearts here at TCPN.
Ed makes a compelling argument that all Christians should heed:
“Recently, I spoke at the Church of God Triennial meeting in Decatur, IL. One of the things I talked about was my belief that there is no such thing as ‘the gift of evangelism.’ Part of my concern is that I hear many people saying they don’t have the ‘gift of evangelism’ and thus believing it is not their responsibility to do evangelism (since they don’t have the ‘gift’). And, since evangelism can be a challenge at times, that seems to be a ‘gift’ that people don’t want.”
Read the rest of Ed’s arguments, and insights at his blog here: http://www.edstetzer.com/2010/07/the-gift-of-evangelism.html

David Nicholas, President of The Church Planting Network and Gospel Boot Camps has authored a new book titled “Whatever Happened to the Gospel?”, released earlier this week by CrossBooks Publishing, a division of LifeWay.
The book is based on the staggering results of a research study conducted by LifeWay Research and Spanish River Church that concluded that out of over 1000 sermons reviewed only 6% presented the Gospel in a clear and understandable way.
The book is available at Amazon and CrossBooks.
To learn more about the book, please visit the official book site “Whatever Happened to the Gospel?”
Ed Stetzer interviewed David about the book. You may read that article here.
“We are in a time when pastors assume, distort and outright neglect the gospel in their preaching. In this pointed but practical book, David Nicholas shows us how to preach with power by clearly explaining the gospel through any passage and in every sermon.”
-Darrin Patrick, Senior Pastor, The Journey, St. Louis, MO

Ed Stetzer, premier missiologist and friend of TCPN, interviewed our President David Nicholas on his blog this afternoon. David has released a much needed book to the church planting and pastorate world this week titled “Whatever Happened to the Gospel?”, published by CrossBooks, a division of LifeWay.
Here’s a excerpt of their conversation:
Ed Stetzer: Why did you write this book? Aren’t most Evangelical pastors preaching the Gospel?
DN: I am convinced that most Evangelical pastors believe they are doing a good job with the Gospel but a LifeWay Research survey revealed that only 6% are preaching what I call a clear, complete, logical, sequential explanation of the Bad News and the Good News. It seems that every time I share this statistic with a person or a group, the response is usually, “I’m not surprised!” I find this interesting because I’m not sure these people have that great an understanding of the Gospel, but they do know something is wrong in the church today. I believe what’s wrong with the church today is its lack of a clear, complete, logical, sequential presentation of the Bad News/Good News.
David will be at the PCA General Assembly today where he will be doing a book signing today at 2:30.
The interview can be seen here.
David’s new book “Whatever Happened to the Gospel?” can be purchased here.
