David Nicholas Profile

David Nicholas, President of TCPN

David Nicholas is a man on mission for Jesus Christ. For the past 46 years of ministry, Dr. Nicholas has dedicated his life to answering the call God has placed on his life: to lead to Christ those who don’t yet know him by the power of the Holy Spirit working through the clear preaching and contextualization of the Gospel message, or, as he adds, “the bad news and the good news”.

Starting from humble beginnings, David pursued the ministry, and in March 1967, shortly after graduating from Columbia Theological Seminary, He and his wife Nori planted Spanish River Church in Boca Raton, Florida. As Senior Pastor, he led the now 1,800+ member church to build a Christian elementary/middle school, launch an Reformed Theological Seminary campus, and start a thriving network of over 200 church plants. He maintained his role as Senior Pastor for 42 Years, until his recent retirement from that role in May, 2009.

David has founded and established TCPN to meet the incredible need for both starting new church plants and the renewal of churches in decline. Having planted and/or significantly collaborated with four of the top 25 church-planting churches in the country, David is, by God’s grace and for God’s glory, an expert and figurehead in the church planting movement in the US and around the globe. He now dedicates his full time service to recruiting, assessing, funding, training, and mentoring church planters. To see an international map of David’s work through SRC click here. David has also recently launched a partnership with Christian Leaders Institute as a faculty member for the 2009-2010 semester.

A Letter from Our President, David Nicholas

Church planting is difficult, but it is the ride of a lifetime for those who make of first importance that which God says is of first importance (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). I am a church planter who, by God’s grace, rode the crest of the wave in the same church for over 42 years. And it was a fantastic ride! Let me share just one story.

I recently performed a wedding for a young lady who had grown up in the church I planted and pastored.  Forty years ago her grandparents came to know Christ through our ministry, years later her parents came to know Christ through our ministry, and then she came to know Christ through our ministry. At the wedding we were one extended spiritual family of God, and it was a great celebration of God’s love and power at work through the Gospel down through the decades. You can’t get that anywhere else in the world.

There is nothing more satisfying than being involved in what God is doing in the world as he takes people from death to life. But this is commonplace for those church planters who take God seriously and consistently sow the seed of the Gospel and stick around long enough to see seasonal harvests.

I not only had the joy of planting a church, but, as pastor, was also able to lead Spanish River Church in Boca Raton, Florida in the planting of over 200 self-supporting churches in the United States and other countries as God directed. Now, as president of The Church Planting Network, I am continuing this work of assessing, selecting, funding and coaching church planters.

In his name and for his glory,

David Nicholas
